Last week I had the pleasure of attending Champalimaud Foundation’s Medica AI conference.

As a doctor, I loved seeing how the Artificial Intelligence revolution is happening across all fields in medicine — from imaging and diagnostics to helping doctors connect with patients by reducing the burden of our bureaucratic and administrative tasks and personalizing patient care in a context- and culture-sensitive way.

The team at Champalimaud’s Digital Surgery Lab’s work is nothing short of amazing. From using AI to predict how patients’ bodies will look like after breast surgery (the Cinderella project) to their work on extended reality for breast cancer surgery (reducing the need for pre-op localization procedures, full breast mastectomies and second surgeries). The live demo was like watching science fiction come to life.

I also deeply enjoyed Dr. Dillon Obika’s insight on his work at Google on the future of medical GenAI.

The potential for AI to revolutionize healthcare is immense, and being part of this transformation is both an exciting and rewarding journey.
